Behind the Screams: Inside Nampa's Haunted World
NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — This is no ordinary haunted house. Nampa's Haunted World takes the art of scaring to a new level.
Steve Wilsey, Cast Director of The Haunted World, says putting together more than 40 acres of amusement is no easy task.
"This is my full-time job," said Wilsey. "We generally start setting out the props in June, and that takes all the way until the opening weekend at the beginning of September, but I work on it all year."
Wilsey says in the offseason, he works on set designing, maintaining construction, destruction and scoping out trade shows for the latest costumes.
"You never want to see the same scary movie twice, so we always have to change things so much or do things in a different way, in some of the areas, that we keep customers coming back and keep things fresh," said Wilsey.
This is Haunted World's twenty-fourth year of scaring. Several Idaho families own the business.
"My wife helps in the ticket booth. My kids scare out in the forest," said Wilsey. "It's definitely going to be a generational thing for me."
Haunted World employs about 300 actors to scare you between two attractions. There is an indoor walkthrough that takes about 15 minutes to complete, as well as an outdoor haunt that takes about 45 minutes to get through. All in all, Wilsey says you should expect to spend at least two hours on their property.
Wilsey hopes you will check them out.
"A lot of people ask me, is it scary? And that really is based on your temperament. Some people come out, and they're absolutely terrified, and some people come out, and they're not scared, but they're having a great time watching their friends run and jump all over the place. So it really depends on your temperament, but it's always fun," said Wilsey.
Haunted World is open until Halloween night. You can purchase tickets here.
